Preston Nix, District 1

This is my 26th year to serve on the Board of Education representing District 1. I have reached the master’s level school board member and have been at this level for over nine years. I have served as President of the Board for two (2) terms and Vice-President for two (2) terms.

I am a graduate of Norris High School and I have taken several management classes at Jacksonville State University. I have been able to obtain several Ministry Degrees, presently studying toward my Doctorate Degree and also taking courses in Drug and Alcohol Counseling.

I retired from from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after thirty-one (31) years. I have served as pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for the past nineteen (19) years.

I have been married to my wife Mary for forty-four (44) years and we have three (3) sons, two of my sons are coaches at the University of Mississippi and our oldest son is retired from the US Air Force.  Our son’s have blessed us with two (2) wonderful grandchildren. All three (3) of my sons were graduates of Etowah High School.

I enjoy working with youth of all ages. I am co-founder of the Attalla Youth Enrichment Program which was founded fifteen (15) years ago and I continue to coordinate yearly activities and events. I was able to start a Scholarship Fund through our local church twenty (20) years ago and continue to lead this endeavor. Dragracing and riding my motorcycle are just a few things I love to do when I get the time.

I am a Veteran and serve on the Etowah Patrons of Veterans Board. I am President of the Etowah County Food Bank and have served on the Board for the past twenty eight (28) years. I am also the Chairman of the Etowah County Voters League.

It is an honor for me to serve on the Attalla City Board.  I am dedicated to the children of Attalla and strive to make sure that all children get a opportunity to learn.  If I can ever help you with anything, please feel free to contact me. God Bless!
